Mindful Yoga for Stress Reduction
In mindful yoga we slow down all the way, deepening our attention to the body and breath, allowing ourselves to drop into the full experience of the moment.
Mindful Yoga classes are an integration of basic hatha and restorative yoga poses
along with Buddhist witnessing of the body, the breath and the mind. We recommended all our students attend Mindful Yoga classes to complement and deepen their experience of the Hot and General Yoga classes.
What is Mindful Yoga?
In a sense all yoga is mindful. Yoga’s inherent nature is awareness of the body and breath. At the Home of Yoga we teach all our classes with this understanding. In the Mindful Yoga classes we simply give more time and attention to the process.
“Mindful yoga is a lifetime engagement – not to get somewhere else, but to be where and as we actually are in this very moment, with this very breath, whether the experience is pleasant unpleasant, or neutral. Our body will change a lot as we practice, and so will our minds and our hearts and our views. Hopefully, whether a beginner or an old-timer, we are always reminding ourselves in our practice of the value of keeping this beginner’s mind.” – ‘Mindful Yoga’ by Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness at the Home of Yoga & Family Nurturing Centre
Mindful Yoga is taught by Sydel Weinstein. Sydel has completed a Professional Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction retreat with Jon-Kabat Zinn in 2009. Sydel has been exploring mindfulness and stress reduction for over thirty years and is also available for private consultations and specialized bookings on yoga and mindfulness trainings for stress, trauma and depression.
Mindful Yoga classes are incredibly beneficial on their own, they are also an excellent way to support your ongoing mindfulness practice and complement the mindfulness workshops and trainings offered through our charity organisation, the Family Nurturing Centre’s Mental Health and Well-Being Program.
