Essentials of Mindful Yoga: An Introduction to Mindful movement.

4 week course – Taking expressions of interest
Mindful Movement is a core practice of the Heart and Wings Mindful Living Program. This 4 week course is designed as a complete experience in itself or as an excellent preparation for the full Heart & Wings Mindfulness & Meditation Program.

Intended as an Introduction to mindful movement for beginners ‘Essentials of Mindful Yoga’ provides space for more experienced practitioners to share practice and the “beginner’s mind”.

Why the wave? The wave symbolizes and attunes to the nature of impermanence and change as well as the vast ocean inter-being that connects us all. Rhythm is an essential aspect of our practice. Awareness of rhythm engages our attention calming body and mind. As we practice we deepen in awareness of the movements of the body and natural rhythm of our breath.

We become aware that our own ability to hold attention moves in a rhythm of remembering and forgetting. We become aware of our witnessing consciousness.

We move at our own pace, discovering a rhythm that works for us. This is a trauma informed practice where we practice skills of finding ground and establishing a bed of safety.

We weave into our practice unconditional acceptance, love and friendliness moving with loving intent.

Your facilitator Sydel Weinstein has been practicing and teaching Meditation and Mindful yoga for 30 years, co-founding the Home of Yoga with her partner Sam Weinstein in 1985. Sydel works as a mental health educator and Trauma Informed Body Therapist. Sydel has been teaching mindful yoga and developing the Mindful Living Program at the Home of Yoga for over 20 years. In 2009 Sydel completed a Professional Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Training with Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Included in this course will be a short session for feedback and sharing of resources. Our sessions are  practice based.

We will follow a week to week progression however this may vary according to the feel of the day. Movements are simple and accessible, mixing slow yoga, heart flow and restorative as well as mindful dancing.

Mindfulness: Having the intention to pay attention non-judgmentally

Grounding – Sense of Place
Calming Techniques and befriending stress.
Imagery & Smiling practice
Body Awareness and Bed of Safety.

Week 2:
Weaving Unconditional Acceptance, love and friendliness into our Mindful yoga.
Directional Awareness & Gratefulness

Week 3:
Sound Awareness
Complementary use of simple chants & Mudra’s

Week 4:
Loving Kindness
Metta & Wishing Well
